Ohio law:

You must have a permit for any wildcaught or CB native herp. Frogs, lizards, turtles, all of them. A different more expensive permit is needed if you're breeding them. However, ON the permit it says that your herps cannot be wildcaught. So I'm pretty confused with that part. Snakes and turtles must be PIT tagged for identification.

Exceptions: Frogs, softshell and snapping turtles may be taken with a fishing license, but I believe only if you eat them.(that's all kinds of fair, isn't it?)

Timber rattlers and massasaugas are endangered and can probably only be kept by zoos and state sponsored nature centers and the like.

It's a decent law, but there's just a bad atmosphere surrounding herping in the whole state right now.

Look Ohio Department of Natural Resources up on the internet for a list of native animals and other goodies.
