The RainMakers nozzles will definitely create enough water droplets to provide drinking water depending on how long your cycles are. The nozzles may be fine mist, but they produce a lot of water under pressure. If your cages are well planted there should be plenty of droplets.



I thought about assembling my own system too, but like you, I found that it probably wouldn't save all that much $.
