Well, I have a coworker who brought a photo to his tattoo artist of his boa, and she did a GREAT job. Looks very realistic and is in color, she even matched the saddle pattern of his boa. The only issue he had with his tattoo was that his skin rejected some of the red dye for the tail, and it had to be redone a couple of times, but that's a skin/ink issue, apparently some people's skin do not take red ink well.
But yes, make sure you get an artist who is good at photorealistic and detail work! A boa skeleton would look horrible done by a person without a fine line and a very steady hand because of all the ribs and parallel curves.
Finding the right artist is the most important thing. ----- Lauren Madar - OphidiaGems.com | CageMakers
