If this is your first snake dude you made a smart choice.
I got my first snake when i has 12. About to turn 18 so ive been housing snakes for 6 years. My first snake was a ball python. 3 years later i extended my collection with a Coastal Carpet Python, Sorong Green Tree Python, and Boa Constrictor. The year after that i bought another, Lemon Pastel. This year i just bought a another one...Albino Ball Python.
OO and i forgot i got a rescued ball python from someone that didnt want it anymore and it was definately in bad owner. But she is still healthly as a fox.
If no one has told you yet, if your buying from a show which in my opinion gets you your best deals then make sure you ask questions. Look for CBB. Captive Born and Bred. Check for ticks on the belly. Also the cheapest price isnt always the best. MAKE SURE THE SNAKE IS ALERT AND ACTIVE. Ask when it ate last. What it was eating....and many other questions.
Bites...specifically talking about ball pythons I've been bit by 2. But that is over 6 years. Usually my fault and completely harmless. Just a quick sting. Also Never pull away hard if one bites and holds on. Just let them calm down and slowly and gently remove his/her head.
Also baby snakes tend to be more snappy then adults. Them become more tame and calm as adults.
Enjoy. If you would like to see picks of my BP's or other snakes just let me know.
