TRIBUNE-CHRONICLE (Warren, Ohio) 27 June 07 Family looking for missing pet snake Southington: A snake is on the loose in Southington, but the serpent’s owners are saying not to worry. Angela Gedeon said her family’s 48- to 54-inch ball python named Jake was outside their state Route 534 home Monday night and got loose. It was still missing Tuesday afternoon. She said the snake isn’t a danger to the neighborhood, but she posted fliers at nearby homes alerting residents to call them, not kill the family pet of 18 years, if they spot the snake. ‘‘It’s really no big deal,’’ Gedeon said of all the hype being made about the missing snake. The snake is about 2 inches round, about the size of a pepperoni stick. It eats mice, and if it posed any danger to residents, Gedeon said she would have told them immediately. Ball pythons are relatively small and docile species of snake, native to west and west central Africa and are in the same family as boas, and are constrictors, according to www.kingsnake.com Adults can reach up to 48 inches long and can live up to 50 years, but 20 to 30 years is more the average life span, the Web site states. They are called ball pythons because when frightened, they coil around their head and into a ball, according to kingsnake.com. Paperboy Editorial Note: Gee, your forum is famous ... again!
