What you are describing is a typical european cage. Due to cold drafts, etc., they developed this style of cage and have great success with it.



Keep in mind which type of chameleon you have - montane species require cooler temps and generally higher humidity as well. Lowland species prefer things a bit drier and warmer. Cage temps can be adjusted up much easier than adjusted down.
