I don't see any issue with using aluminum foil to block the light from the MVB. I would make sure it doesn't come in direct contact with the bulb though, just in case.

Foil doesn't 'burn' very easily so I don't see it being a fire hazard. If the foil touches something flammable, it will be though. Also note it can get hot to the touch and may blacken eventually so make sure nothing living gets in contact with the foil once the light has been on.
