"""I am in need of information on vanillas. All I really know is that it is a co-dom trait. I was wondering what type of morphs have been produced with them? What is the average selling price? How long has this morph been around? What is the typical look of a vanilla, or how do you tell a vanilla? If you have pics I'd like to see."""
you are correct in that it is a co-dom trait. It was first produced by Gulf Coast Reptiles in 2000. The super was first produced in 2002 by GCR. They made them public in 2004 at the tampa reptile show when they put the first super female as an adult on display. It was then that I knew I had to have that gene in our collection. Since then they have bred the hypo gene into it and produced vanilla ghosts and a super vanilla ghost (both which look awesome), pastel vanilla, black pastel vanilla, spider vanilla and more crosses to come this year. As far as price goes, check the classifieds or give GCR a call. I'd be very scared to buy from anyone that does not have animals from a proven line and until this year you would have had to buy from just 2 or 3 people. The reason I wouldn't buy one of these ch animals you see offered at below market price is that I like to buy piece of mind. I like dealing with breeders that can promise me 100% the genetics of an animal and not that it looks like it is one. I've enclosed an older pic of our striped vanilla male, a pic of our female vanilla (we are one of the very few that have a female vanilla, common supers) and a pic of a super vanilla male with a black ball(both snakes belong to GCR). The female has the typical vanilla look although she is lighter than the pic shows. Hopefully one day soon, I'll spend the money on a good camera and lighting. If you have any other questions, let me know.
