It is okay to find another vet specifically for your gecko, I'm sure your mammalian vet won't mind 
With that advice, I agree that it should be taken to a herp savy vet, and soon to get treatment started. In the mean time, you can softly clean the discharge with a damp cloth or paper towel. Avoid being to course or ripping of dry discharge that might tear the soft tissue underneath.
