there are two types of blacklights, blb and bl. the bl types are the ones we use for iguanas and such; they radiate UV light along with most of the rest of the spectrum. these release relatively small doses of UV, which may or may not be beneficial to some herbivorous, diurnal basking lizards. certainly the amount of UV in question is extremely small and probably not harmful under normal exposure. never the less, these WILL eventually damage the eyes and skin...read the label



blb bulbs are the flourescent tubes that glow purple when they are turned on. these release copious amounts of harmful UV radiation. prolonged exposure results in damage to the skin and eyes, both in herps and people. there should be a warning right on the package. ask you vet or md for more info!!
