yes they are threatened not endangered, so with permission of the state you can acquire them, very strict about receipts and proof they where not collected from the wild. You can get a permit for any threatened specie in NJ ( excluding anything considered potentially dangerous.)
Judging from your post you where not aware of this.
I have turtles on my permit also, also you must prove or provide proof they where obtained out of the state of NJ.
Most people do not know our laws.
Green and yellow anacondas's where added to potentially dangerous list in 2001, I had them permitted already and therefore they where grand fathered and still legal for me to have. ----- Thanks,
