“Since you're asking this in the "Monitor" forum I'll assume you mean to make it water resistant, which is usually all that's required for a monitor's cage.”



A monitor cage is also required to resist damage from monitors’ claws. If claws can scratch right through whatever stuff is supposed to be “water resistant”, that kind of defeats the purpose.



Water-based poly often won’t hold up very well to monitors’ claws. I think the correct answer here is to laminate the floor and walls with FRP.



If one was actually trying to make a wooden box hold water, then a few coats of DryLok might do the trick.
