The female should be at least 3 years old and at least 1500g before being bred. If she's younger or smaller, she could easily slug out or become egg bound. Females use a LOT of their body weight when producing eggs -- that's why they don't gain weight while gravid. Every gram of their extra weight is converted into an equal gram of egg weight. After laying, they are nothing but minimal bones and skin. It takes a lot out of them, so a female should be well fed with a good calcium store before breeding. | ||
