Borba is my largest female BRB. She has looked extremely gravid and seemed to be ready to lay for the last couple of weeks. Today she laid 31 live babies plus 2 stillborn and 7 or more slugs. My daughter checked on the snakes this morning and Borba was in the middle of laying the litter then. Borba ate one slug while my daughter was watching her. When I got home from Florida this afternoon the litter was completely laid and the babies were crawling around in the cage. There was one oddity in this litter. One baby was still resting in a membrane with his nose exposed. There was a very large mass inside the membrane with him that looked like a concave section of a slug. The baby is healthy and weighs 15 grams compared to the other babies which weigh 26 to 29 grams. I am not sure if this is a case of part of the egg mass going bad and leaving a healthy section that this baby developed from or perhaps this may have been a case of twins where one of the twins died very early. Borba is a 10 or 11 year old that was born here. The father of this litter was probably Lorio a 7 or 8 year old male from Gary Lorio. There was no mating observed when they were kept together during march. The sex ratio of the litter is 12.19.
