Here are the few ideas I had when I read your original post:

Possibly the male is in breeding mode?



The scent from birth sticks around for a while. Did you really scrub it out good? I noticed it in my females cage for a long time even after scrubbing it down a bunch of times. If the female smells it, she can be more aggressive than normal, maybe she is stressing out your male putting him off feed? Or he can smell the lingering smell and that is enough to put him off?



I know you said you tried feeding him out of the cage but if he's stressed it might not be enough. Just an idea though.



I would try putting him in a seperate cage for at least a week if not two, and then try feeding again.
