>>Looks like a wonderfull place! Do they mind you tromping around or are they used to it?

There are lots of trails and several horseshoe-shaped lakes with trails around them. Most people that go there are there to see the gators (my wife and her friend even witnessed one devour a watersnake while I was a few yards away looking for snakes off of the trail). I've even talked to the rangers at the nature center and asked them where they have seen certain species of snakes - and they were happy to point me in the right direction. Basically, you can tromp wherever you want if it doesn't involve molesting the wildlife, facilities, etc. You can't take anything from the park, obviously - but it's a just great place to go and see a bunch of herps. (And if we could all see as many wild herps as we wanted to each day, I doubt as many of us would keep them as captives.) I think there is about a 3 or 4 dollar fee per person for entry.

One of the last times I went, it was Labor Day in '04 and we saw several undispersed, newly-born litters of copperheads right next to their mad-as-heck-to-see-us mamas! It was pretty neat.
