I have been using the Calcium Fortified gel from Fluker for my crickets, and you're right. I do notice that they die more quickly. Out of 100 that I keep weekly for my dragons, probably a third of them die in just a few days. I was attracted to that "Calcium Fortified" claim on the package. Personally, I like to give them bits of safe fruit instead, along with the regular gutload.
I have noticed recently a new product (well, new to me) in stores called water packets. They're more of a gauzy packet and you soak it in water until it looks like a little pillow. THey last a few days and they can be cleaned and reused by the crickets. I haven't tried them out yet, but they look pretty interesting.
