I think I can get my name added to scientific collecting permit for a friend of mine that I have given a number of animals to in the recent past for various non-commercial reasons. But would like to know how this will mix with a type 548 non-game permit and 549 non-game dealers permit.

I assume that under a scientific collecting permit you can possess more than 10 of a species or 25 aggregate native animals as it is making the 548 useless except as a courtesy to report to TP&W. The 549 on the other hand is more about commerce which is not covered under the scientific permit (and should not be) and would be needed if I produced native TX animals (white list) in captivity to sell or trade.

I just wanted to get a feel for how close my assumptions are. Also, what is the status on the 548/549 permits right now? I heard that all the TX dealers got a letter that in some long winded way said that the permit system is on hold pending a revision and the letter explaining that revision is coming soon. It did not sound promising but instead sounded like they were getting ready to let the gimp out of the box to come and play with herpers.
