THE DERRICK (Oil City, Pennsylvania) 06 October 07 Lost snake finds home in Clarion biology department Clarion: Home s-s-sweet home. The lost snake found early this week in downtown Clarion will find a new residence in Clarion University’s biology department. The snake was taken to the Clarion County Humane Society on Monday after it was the subject of a rather bizarre incident on Wood Street. Employees at Howard Hanna were alerted to the reptile’s path after a motorist swerved to miss it as it was crossing the road. A second driver stopped to pick it up and place it on the sidewalk. The as-yet-unnamed snake, which was less than five feet long, is likely worth at least $200. Exactly where it came from may remain a mystery. “He’s a very nice snake,” said Reba McDonald, director of the humane society. “He’ll be used at the university as an educational tool.” There were several other individuals who had expressed interest in adopting the reptile. McDonald said it was best to place the boa constrictor, which is not poisonous, in a suitable environment as soon as possible. “It’s what’s best for the animal,” she said. “This worked out well.” Clarion Borough police escorted the animal to Pets Fifth Avenue before it was later transferred to the humane society.
