When I use loose material bedding (anything other then paper) I use a 2 part cypress mulch and 1 part aspen mix. I do this because using straight cypress tends to make the moisture/humidity levels stay on the high end (which isn't a bad thing all the time, but if where you live tends to have a high humidity level it can result in fairly soggy bedding.)
