Using wood for carpet python

I am currently planning on building an enclosure for a carpet python and this is my first custom housing. My only questions are: How hard is wood to clean? It seems like it would absorb moisture? On that note: How well does wood hold humidity? I plan on using particle board with a veneer cover. The front would be a plexiglass sheet for viewing. Thanks
