It is illegal to keep any native reptiles save for venomous. I'm sure the thinking behind this law is the Rattlesnake Roundup which would require the capture or hunting or carrying in some way of venomous reptiles.

My family is from Georgia and my mom just recently moved back to her VERY small hometown. We laugh at some of the laws around there. They have a seat belt law but it's exempt if you are in a pick-up, things like that. Many of them surround their hunting culture but it sounds funny when you hear them. Here in Central FL, you surely couldn't ride around with shotguns in your vehicle in a gun rack, etc.
