pre-ovulation swell...

I was wondering if the female typically swells twice (the pre-ovulation swell, and then again while she ovulates)...OR, does she just swell once (the pre-ovulation swell) and then ovulation occurs but you can only assume it is occurring because the pre-ovu. swell took place a couple weeks before ovulation happens?
