Yes, locust and grasshoppers are one and the same.

However, some people here in the U.S. mistakenly call cicadas "locusts". Especially the ones that only appear once every 7 years or so.

The main difference between true locusts and cicadas are that locusts will eat any veggitation they can find, whereas cicadas have no mouth at all. The adults only live long enough to breed and lay eggs in holes or cracks in tree bark. Their larva can do alot of damage to trees though.





Probably more info than anybody wanted.

Oh well, I have nothing better to do at the moment. :-P
