Hi
here a pic of my breeding colony thx for the info.
i already got a feeling they r in the same familie.
like a slugh and snail .
ok on the pic you see my colony they mainly eat gras it give a nice dry poop.
i not have some thing on the bottom every time i change the boxes 2,3 days then i can scope out the dry poop and gras .
if you make a double bottom with wire the poop wil fal trough it just a tip.
but i not found it anoying to schope it up.
its dry and not stink at all.
if i walk in my little shed/barn in my garden i only smell gras.
i love fresh cutted gras smell
you also see on the picture the boxes i talk about i made a ramp with a wooden piece.
so they can climb easy where they must lay there eggs in.
you also see bran on the bottom .
and wire where they can climb in,its very importent to make enough climb space.
i have in a 50 gallon tank 2x 100 watt normal bulb and a double fixture with flueroscent lights.
one of that light is a old reptisun 5.0 some people say they not needed it and other say they need it.
i not take risk and i use a reptisun 5.0 a old one it working very fine, you all know uvb/uva have good things
i use potsoil in the boxes with i puit in microwave first 5-8 min .
also i made a double boxes first one with holes and i use dreads trough the holes then papertowel on top and then the potsoil.
so the second box is used for little bit water in so the dreads get wet and so the potsoil get wet from the bottom .
,,,not spray from above to get it moist it not good,,,.
i have it max 41 degree and minium on 35 degree celsius .
24 houres a day i have the light on .
and every time i bring hoppers away i put some back to keep my colony allive.
becuase i use 24 houre then the grashopper is dead after 1,2 months adulthood.
they lay 40-200 eggs each time .
they have a long dril in the behind and then go in the potsoil and lay the eggs,if you use transparant boxes you see the pink colord eggs
its much work but i make 800 -900 grashoppers each week and sel the rest 1000 grashoppers = 100 euro
so its nice to have some thing back and free food
if some one wanna know more email me
