I believe what you have seen are some of the various products that are 1/8" hardboard with a thin layer of plastic fused to one side. Often called tile board or shower board.
Is what you're thinking of white in color and about $10 per 4x8 sheet?
One thing I should say up front is that many of these products are not actually rated for use in showers. How they got their trade names is beyond me. Still, many of these are still suitable for light use in reptile enclosures.
If I made a Great Stuff background, and put it on a piece of shower surround, I could then silicone the shower surround into a cage, compared to putting the great stuff directly on the glass/wood/whatever, and I'd wind up with a background that is much easier to remove. Correct?
I think it would be easier to remove.
Will Great Stuff(or an equivalent) hold to shower surround?
I'm fairly certain it will stick to tile board. It sticks to glass so it should stick to tile board.
Will silicone/any other glue hold shower surround to glass?
Yes.
And finally, where the heck are you guys finding flat pieces of shower surround?
At my local Lowes it's back by the pegboard and wall paneling. I think it's by the wall paneling at our local Menards as well. ----- Currently keeping a small collection of various Gonyosoma. Both G. janseni and G. oxycephala.
