For the money ($60-$120) the Fluval cannister filters are a good buy and are easy to maintain. They can push a reasonable head-height and enough flow for a small waterfall. You could also boost this flow with a powerhead or two running parrallel.



I use a couple 204s to feed a overhead wet-dry filters on a couple of my aquariums.



A step up from this would be a Ehiem. These have more head, but are quite a bit more expensive.



An option for daily RAIN SHOWERS would be to wire in a cheap high pressure pump on a timer to lift the water into a drip pan above everything. These are too hard on the electric bill to run continuously but on a timer, it would be cool.



For this you could use anything from a small sump pump or RV camper water pump as lift.



If you do it, you have to post pics. Both of build and the complete results...
