The simple answer regarding the UV lighting is...it depends.

I have had some that loved having the light. And that goes back to when I had a herp room with lots of western exposure windows where there was lights of natural sunlight. Some burms seemed to do better with the lights on in their enclosure.

So could have cared less. I know have my snakes in a room with no natural light, and have stopped using UV lighting due to my ever skyrocketing electric bill, and none of the snakes seem to care. As a matter of fact, some of them...not just my burms but my boas as well, have responded better to no lighting.

I guess the best thing to do is let the snakes answer your question. Use an inexpensive fixture, and install some UV lighting, and experiment.

Let us know if you do, and if so, what your observations were.
