Mike, this is why these posts turns sour.
Its not about me being right, I am only right for ME. Its also not about you being right.
Constantly making it about right or wrong, HAS TO END in an arguement. The good stuff is between those two extremes.
Your entitled to keep monitors in any way you want, and in a way that suits you and your family.
The problem becomes not about you or me or our differences, its with the many that attempt to copy you or me, and without OUR experiences or our goals. They simply pick something pretty or easy, and do not know what it takes to meet the monitors needs. If we would ACTUALLY have a discussion, then important details will surface. That is what is important.
You see, its not whether we agree or disagree. Its the discussion of our differences that is IMPORTANT. This is a forum for varanid discussion, but there is no discussion, there is mostly I agree or disagree. Which is pretty much worthless to me and to anyone who reads it. There is no value in having a discussion when all are in agreement.
Mike for us or the "academics" to be of help, to the readers of these forums, we need to discuss our points of view. Thats the interesting part, not whether we agree or disagree.
Another for instance, If those experts that left would discuss our differences it could be very benefitual. They question me, I support my statements with results. When I question them, they get all mad and attack in all ways of no meaning. They then play all manner of mind games because they may not have any REAL support of their comments. Their main support seems to be, they agree with eachother. Hmmmmmmmmmm kid stuff. Sir, that is not discussion, and its not me thats causing the problems.
In this case, you could discuss what and how you USE you cages, sir, my bet is, its no different then what I do. Or when I mentioned your recent nesting was marginal. You never asked why or what would be better or worse.
Lets take your recent nesting. The problem does not have to be your setup, but instead your maintenance. With ackies, marginal soil types will work well if kept up. If allowed to settle or pack down, the nestings will fail. All you have to do is remix and fluff up the substrate and it will work great. The same goes for what your using, if it was compacted over time. The monitors may not dig a deep burrow. Instead wait until the last minute and lay in a shallow nest. Which will lead to complications to the female and possibly the eggs. But you do not discuss this, you either agree or disagree.
How on earth can anyone have a decent discussion if all they WANT is agreement. Sir that is boring.
And no I was not right, I was partically right. And so were you. Cheers
