First of all, I want to make sure ya'll are aware that within a few years, when the sav will be full grown, or near about, it will need a cage aprox. 8ft long x 4ft wide x 2 1/2ft high. And unless you raise your own rodents, can be costly to feed.

Now, I'll just elaborate a bit on "newstorm's" reply.

For the first several months it should be fed as much as it can eat within about 10 minutes or so, 2 - 3 times each day.

A dirt/play sand mix, aprox. 50/50 or slightly less sand, and at least 3 - 12 inches deep usually works good. The depth helps hold moisture needed to maintain proper humidity level.

Stick with 65 - 75% humidity, which can be hard to maintain in a glass tank with screen lid. The majority of the screen would need to be covered to keep humidity in, but it's not as easy as it sounds. Solid top enlcosures are best.

Have a good one!
