best way of heating?

what is the the best way of heating? should i use a thermostat or rheostat, flexwatt or something like a zoo med heater? what will be the best combo to keep the temperatures steady and accurate? any help will be greatly appreciated? by the way keep in mind i have to put them in the cage itself because they are made of wood.
