Is this for holding down a heating element or for wrapping electrical wire within the vicinity of a hot object.



If its the latter, where you need a protective barrier from radient heat. Their is a product called "Aluminum Foil Glass Cloth Tape", Its used in the areospace and automotive industries. I use it to protect electrical wire from Solar radiation (high heat), I also have used it at home to protect electrical wire around the exhaust manifolds for automotive work.



I don't know the exact rating but the 3M stuff is the best there is and it runs around $89 a roll. You can get cheaper off brands for around $50.
