I've heard Leopards come from Sonora and I've herd they come from Costa Rica. I think there are and have been some Germans that were/are pretty well connected with Costa Rica.

I'm no expert of course, but I'd think along those lines for outbreeding to keep them small and to maintain the dark, if you want to maintain the dark.
