They sure are. Let me tell you something I figured out. Maybe I read it, but don't remember where. Ever notice how a hungry little Red Tail will twitch his tail in anticipation of a meal?
That's why their tails are colored and patterned as they are. Caudal lureing, same thing as all the little pit vipers with their bright little tails, that co-habit the same ecosystems. Lay motionless in a coil on a trail and twitch that tail. Dinner comes to you.
