It sounds to me that your diamondback is not aggressive, it's just exhibiting normal feeding behavior. As a matter of fact (my opinion), he sounds totally the opposite! Water snakes are such good feeders and learn so quickly that any movement may be food that they snap at anything. This is more excitement than aggression. Once you have the snake in your hand (gently, despite it's apparent insanity) it will calm down 'cause - no food. Problem is, it's so natural to jerk your hand away if/when you think he'll bite that it just gets him going more (almost like a game).
One of my young pictiventris is like this. She bites the water stream as I fill her dish, the branch when I move it and goes nuts to get the fish in the other snakes' cages. But once I pick her up (really tough to do without getting bitten), she's OK. Just a normal, curious water snake.
