Well to be honest the calculus series and differential equations(basically engineering applications of calculus) are the last courses in a math program where you are really doing computations. All upperdivision coursework is proofs classes.
The "real analysis" two part series I am currently finishing is going back and prooving why everything in calculus works and why it is legitimate to use it.
Also alot of the time math gets a bad rep because there are so many bad or just not good math teachers out there. I mean really for calculus there are only two basic concepts. The first is the idea of a limit and the second is the idea of infinite subdivisions. If you have those two then everything else is just application of them in different situations. Thats not to say it doesn't get complicated in those situations though lol
