I actually sort of like the Macro range. IMHO I can see a difference in the picture quality. When I do go into Macro settings, one thing I've noticed, is that the color seems truer to reality than other modes.

Wait till you get into the "super" macro range. It's pretty neat stuff. Imagine getting to within 3 cm of your target...
