Uh - I missed something here ... EXCUSE ME for asking what must have been a REALLY dumb question. A dubious thanks for a confusing response. The upcoming Berkeley trip and chuck-watching seemed pretty exciting, but guess not?

The mockery's WAY over my head ... join me briefly on ground level ... are you saying Angel Island chucks (S. hispidus) DON'T live on the Angel Island between Berkeley and San Francisco? Who would guess? Was simply trying to CONFIRM that I will (or WON'T) be in the right place to see big chucks and to find out if they're holed up in rocks for the winter and therefore, not observable. Truly need to know about this - no sense spending a bunch of time and money getting to Angel Island from our Berkeley hotel if there are no big chucks on the island.

So sorry about my ignorance. I'm not pulling any legs; I'm from the Midwest, not California (which, actually, is NOT the center of the universe). Never heard of Bahia de los Angeles but sounds like it would be fun to go there - Sue
