Charles,



one of the biggest problems with pits in captivity is them getting too fat. We all want them to grow huge and usually overfeed them as a result. After a pit or any snake for that matter gets to an age where you are thinking of breeding them, the intake should be moderated dramtically, especially in females. One of the biggest causes of egg binding is the females being overweight. Also in males the fertility rate is usually lower on obese males and they are less active also. Duh, sounds like me at times in my life.LOL



Anyway in our collection a 6 - 7' bull is fed two small to med. rats per week and they thrive. They would eat a lot more if I would let them, but it is not healthy for the breeders. Watch the backs of your animals if you start to see the flesh start to protrude over the backbone, you are probally feeding too much. Hope that helps.
