I've talked extensively with Scott Ballard about this, and Scott fully agrees. It seems that he(J. Mabe) had both of these ssp. mixed up, and his abnorma were polyzona,...and his polyzona were abnorma. I saw BOTH of these ssp. of his at a show in '95. So i.e. now that the "labels" were both switched around on Shannon's(and they were), AND these, they should BOTH be correctly identified.
The animal I posted looks virtually identicle to Scott's un-related animals too with 29-30 RBR. "Keying out" respectively at the high end of band-count. Also, the adult parents I saw when I bought the hatchlings were clones of the neonates, with heavy tipping, yet staying vividly colored, and not "muddied" and suffused with dark pigment. I chatted with Scott just last night about these animals, specifically the one posted, and he varified all of this as well.
Confusing?....................you betcha'!!!
