Posted by: Carlton at Tue Jan 22 15:49:14 2008 [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by Carlton ] Chams have temporal glands in the corners of their mouth. If the gland is swollen (possible infection from a scratch or cut from a feeder leg for example) it might have gotten caught in the cham's teeth as it bit down on something. But, chams have simple peg teeth not molars or the "slicing" teeth mammal carnivores have. I don't really see how he could have bitten something in this spot. What is a concern is possible infection of the gland and/or the gum around it. You don't want to ignore this. Temporal gland infections can be very difficult to treat. I would take him to a herp vet so he can examine him close up. Even if there is just a bit of food caught somehow you would still want to remove it so it doesn't cause an infection by itself. The cham worrying at it or rubbing his face could lead to other scratches or injuries. [ Hide Replies ]
