in 2003 an idiot got busted having a tiger (and a 4 foot caiman) in his harlem apt. a complete ban on exotics in nyc and its 4 burroughs followed immediately. thats a huge area and a massive population. all exotics. you can not own a ferret or a ball python. you may own fish, cats, dogs.

do not underestimate the ignorance or knee jerk style reactions of those who write the laws. imagine your child wants a a bearded dragon but it'd be illegal in your home? nyc lives this. and if we could not win the fight and were loudmouths...?

florida has an invasive species problem. we own animals that can establish themselves in their ecosystem just as burms have. a law outlawing some animals will no doubt be passed in fla. its just a matter of how over-encompassing that law will be. i doubt it will go national - this is a florida problem. if you live in fla, you need to offer smart suggestions to the burm and future invasive species problems. screaming about loss of livelihood will not do it - the overall population does not care for what we do, and they pay 99.9% of the taxes and they want assurances that no other species of large snake, monitor, etc will get a foothold in their state - just as nyc wanted no exotics in the apt or bldg next door.

join PIJAC. and when responding to the feds acknowledge that a reptile invasive species problem exists. - and lets help steer them smartly.
