whitish area on plastron... is this bad?

my redfoot (about a little over a year old) has white on her plastron, between the scutes. it is mainly right down the middle. is this normal, like maybe a sign of growth, or is this a symptom of something else? her shell feels hard all over and there are no other abnormalities. Any ideas??
