Chams are primarily insectivores. Some veileds, panthers and melleri will eat leafy greens, chunks of fruit or veggies, but their primary diet is live insects. There are a couple of great websites with nutrition and feeder articles that I'd suggest reading first, then come back with specific questions. Yes there are lots of alternatives to crickets. Silkworms, hornworms, roaches, pillbugs, flies, moths, superworms all work.
