I like to try different things as potential hides for my snakes, just to see what they'll like best. I've found that my boa adores paper bags full of shredded newspaper, and that one of my young adults likes cereal boxes, but only if they're empty (no shredded newspaper for her, please).



I've been trying a plastic take-out food container with my pastel, since coiled up he'd fit perfectly under it, and he does sometimes coil up under it, quiet as a snakey lamb.

However, late at night and often in the morning, I see him shoving that plastic container ALL OVER the cage. Today he is underneath it pushing it up and hitting the top of his tub, then falling over and making quite a loud thunk. He can get out from under it, he's not stuck - I just watched him move his head, stick it out from under the food container, rest for a moment, then go right back to it.



He's not shedding, and lately he has been more active that usual, but I had figured that was due to an inadequate hide or something not being to his liking in the cage...

Guess he was just bored?
