I can't believe they even HAD a snake at PetSmart! All the PetSmart's I've been to refuse to sell snakes because snakes eat mice and mice are cute and cuddly and that goes against some weird code of ethics they adhere to.
My brother used to work at a PetSmart and he wasn't allowed to sell mice or rats to people unless they signed a paper that stated the animal was a pet and not food for some other animal. Of course, there was one guy that bought a new "pet" from my brother every week.
Before I knew all this, I walked into a PetSmart one day and asked the cute little sales girl for a live feeder rat. She screwed up her face in a look of absolute disgust and told me that PatSmart does NOT sell feeder mice.
I think if they were really concerned about animal cruelty they would look in their cages and maybe clean them and provide adequate food, water and humidity. I buy most of my supplies, feeders and animals online or at shows. I find that if I must deal with a pet store, I prefer to deal with a few smaller locally owned shops.
