If you already have the tank, then a wire screen cover with cage clips does the job of keeping your kingsnake secure. This set-up provides good ventilation and ease of care. I don't know about "most" people. I do know that most of my 20 animals are in tanks with screen covers/clips. This set-up works well for the species I keep, given the ambient temps and humidity in my herp room.

Research a care sheet for the species you want to keep. Many breeders/hobbyists have husbandry information on their web sites.. Plus, there are people here on the KS forums who will answer questions and give advice.
