Hi. It appears to be from the genus Gopherus which includes the Bolson, Desert, Texas, and Gopher Tortoises. This one looks too large to be a Texas Tortoise, so is probably one of the other three species. There are some strict laws regarding collecting tortoises of that genus, so you may need to notify your state's DEC, Fish & Game, or other conservation agency that you have found it.



Where do you live, and where was it found? That would narrow down the possibilities as to the species, plus tell you what needs to be done as far as notifying anyone that you have it.
