Certain top soils are black, MAKE SURE there is no fertilizer in it. (forget anything with miracle gro on the bag)

I have used colored fish tank gravel, just fine. We go to the creek and look for pretty stones with sparkles

We always feed in separate enclosures, so ingesting colored sand, gravel or dirt never happens.

Think about it, snakes like beaches as much as we do.

Little waterfalls in the back of a tank look awesome too!

Get creative, just be careful.... Dirt from your yard should be sterilized by baking at 400 degrees for an hour - wipes out all parasites.

Plant grass, plants, flowers! Little dood dads from home depot and the dollar store are attractive in there too.

Stay away from pine and cedar, you can kill the snake.

Have fun.

Wayne A. Harvey
