I am interested in the tortoises that are (usually) commonly available as WC but keepers have had little success breeding them in captivity. When I begin a tortoise collection, I will try and work with tortoises that are periled in the wild (which is most of them, unfortunately). So to open up the first discussion, I would love to hear about anyone's efforts with captive propagation of uncommon tortoises and what you feel are important species to work with in the future because of current wild statuses.
I also wanted to ask about hingeback tortoises. I just read the Reptiles article about them (I'm behind in my reading, I know) and they seems pretty straightforeward to care for but nothing was mentioned in the way of breeding. Seeing as how I have only seen WC individuals in the classifieds, I'm guessing there hasn't been much success with these species. Would like to hear about any breeding successes and efforts going on now with those tortoises.
Thanks to anyone who helps curb my curiousity.
